The First Purpose

While every atom that has ever had and will ever have a place in the construction or composition of the universe is suspended among infinite possibilities as to where and when and how it will go and settle, the atom suddenly follows a definite direction, and finds its exact place, producing amazing results. This bears witness to the existence of One with absolute, all-encompassing Knowledge, Will, and Power. Through this testimony, the lamp of belief in the Creator within the heart is also kindled, as this faculty is an epitome of the worlds of the Unseen. As each atom announces the Creator by itself, it also shows His Wisdom through its relationships with all the other atoms which form the compounds or compositions of particular things, as well as with many other elements of existence. These relationships give many purposeful and beneficial results, and serve the magnificent, indestructible balance of existence. This brings us to the conclusion that the proofs for the existence of the Creator are much more numerous than the atoms that make up the universe.

If you ask why everyone does not see God with the eyes of their reason or intellect, I will answer that He cannot be seen because of the intensity of His manifestation. There are many material things that, because of the intensity of their manifestation, are beyond the scope of human sight or which can make humans blind. The All-Majestic Creator is absolutely free of being material, so how can He be seen?

Ponder over the lines of the universe,

For they are letters to you from the highest realm.

Look at the chains of events and things with which the Eternal Embroiderer decorates all of the vast universe; look with the eye of wisdom, so that the letters coming to you in uninterrupted series from the highest realm may cause you to rise to the zenith of a degree of certainty of belief.

AN INDICATION

Human conscience does not forget the Maker due to the point of reliance and the innate request for help. Even though the mind sometimes ceases to work, taking a temporary vacation, the conscience never does. It is always occupied with two jobs, which are as follows:

When resorted to, the conscience shows that, just as the heart dispenses life throughout the body, so too knowledge of God (ma‘rifetullah), which is the source of life in the heart, deals out life to infinite tendencies and ambitions that humans have in proportion to their capacity. The conscience expands these, giving them value and putting pleasure in them. This is the innate request for help of the human conscience.

In addition to this, the sole point of reliance for humans against the tumults, difficulties, sufferings, and calamities that attack life, one after the other, is knowledge of the Creator.

If humans do not believe in the All-Wise Maker Who does everything wisely and in orderly fashion, and instead blindly attribute everything to supposed coincidences, they will find themselves in a hellish state of loneliness, dread, worry, and fear, in which they will be aware of how little power they have in the face of calamities. Even though they are the most honored of creatures, they will be more miserable than other beings. This also contradicts the essence of the magnificent order of the universe. So the sole refuge or point of reliance for the human is knowledge and recognition of God.

As these two points, namely the point of reliance and the inner request for help, are among the basic elements and essential realities in the order of the universe, the existence of the Maker shows itself through their windows in the human conscience. Even if human reason does not see Him, the conscience sees Him through the heart, which is its window.
